Поради для спілкування англійською мовою
Ситуація 1. Ви не впевнені, що зрозуміли співрозмовника або сумніваєтеся, що зрозуміли його правильно.
Порада 1: попросіть повторити:
- I am sorry, could you repeat that, please?
- Could you say that again, please?
Порада 2: попросіть уточнити питання:
- I am sorry, I don’t quite see what you mean.
Порада 3: повторіть питання або частина питання для уточнення:
- Did you say …?
- Would you like to know about…?
- Are you asking about…?
- Should I describe…?
- Do you want me to comment on…?
Ситуація 2. У вас немає відповіді на питання, і вам необхідно зібратися з думками:
Порада 4: повторіть запитання співрозмовника: What are good places for outings in Moscow?
Порада 5: перефразуйте питання співрозмовника: You mean what are good places for outings in Moscow?
Рада 6: використовуйте наступні фрази:
- Well,… — Ну,…
- You know,… — Знаєте, …
- Actually,… — Взагалі-то,…
- You see…, — Розумієте, …
- In fact,… — Фактично, …
- Let me think. — Дайте подумати.
- Honestly, … — Чесно, …
- The thing is … — Річ у тім, що…

- It is difficult to say … — Важко сказати …
- That’s a very difficult/ interesting question. — Це дуже важкий/ цікаве питання.
- I am not quite sure but I believe… — Я не зовсім впевнений, але я вважаю…
- I haven’t really thought about it but it seems that … — Я про це ще не думав насправді, але здається, що…
Ситуація 3. Ви забули слово.
Рада 7: Замініть це слово з іншим близьким або більш загальним значенням. Наприклад, pork (свинина) — meat (м’ясо) або carnation (гвоздика) — flower (квітка)
Порада 8: або використовуйте визначення, а не слово. Наприклад, замість слова — ковдра (ковдра), скажіть: the thing that you cover your body while sleeping (річ, якою вкривають тіло під час сну)
Порада 9: у крайньому випадку, використовуйте мову жестів: It is shaped like this … — За формою це як…
Рада 10: попросіть допомогти вам:
- What do you call the person whose job is to cut people’s hair? — Як називається людина, яка стриже людей?
- What is the English for «a person who cuts people’s hair»? — Як по-англійськи «людина, яка стриже людей»?
Практика спілкування. Типові ситуації
Завдання 1. Ви не розумієте виділеного слова. Використовуйте лайфхаки 1-10, щоб почати спілкування.
- My grandfather was born in Inverness.
- How come have you lost so much money?
- I would like a pound of potatoes and a vegetable marrow.
- That is thirteen and five pounds pence.
- Let us meet in front of the cinema at, say, 7.30 p.m.
Завдання 2. Програйте ситуацію нижче з одним. Один задає питання або говорить по-англійськи, інший намагається відповісти, роблячи вигляд, що все добре розуміє. Використовуйте якомога більше різних виразів зі списків вище.
- To Explain your partner how to get from the place you are now to the nearest underground station.
- Tell your partner the plot of the film you have seen recently.
- Find out how your partner spent his (her) last holidays (time, place, company, food, attractions, adventures).
- Find out from your partner what happened in the last episode of a nTV series you both watched.
- You phone your friend and want to arrange a meeting. But he (she) can’t hear you very well.
- Describe a house or a flat you have visited recently and liked very much.
Завдання 3. Програйте ситуацію нижче з одним. Спробуйте відновити питання за відповіді. Розіграйте діалоги. Зверніть увагу на слова, виділені кольором. Їх потрібно використовувати обов’язково.
